2019 – the year of the film

How has your year been? Have you got your New Year Resolutions sorted out yet? Did you know that traditionally, resolutions were set at Yule, not the New Year? I think you were supposed to write each one on a slip of paper and then burn it, presumably on the Yule log. The log was an actual log, and not a chocolate Swiss roll covered with even more chocolate (like that was ever a bad thing!). Of course, Yule is in about 10 days time, so that’s even less time to sort it out. Continue reading

Sorry, Mister Dickens!

The wintry London streets were full of bustling souls as Will Drabbletwatch made his way home to Seventeen Crudpucket Lane, EC1. For it was Christmas Eve and his mind was full of the coming festivities. As he trudged through the eddying snowdrifts, he thought of roaring fires, chestnuts exploding merrily, the smell of a roasting turkey large enough to live in, and of the fact that he could not afford any of these luxuries that were meat and drink to the muffled bustlers drifting past, like embers of jollity.
